I was asked this recently by someone who’d just met me, let’s call him Nigel. Most people who know me would know that I have my fair share of electronic gadgets.

Despite my reputation for being a geek, it’s actually my non-geek friends who get the latest phones and tablets and other gadgets before I do. That’s more because I’m cheap than anything else. But the answer is still “Yes, I like electronic things.”

I was considering how to answer Nigel while factoring in the previous paragraph. Nigel had asked this question as I was rearranging my backpack. As I fumbled for a concise answer, I pulled out an external hard drive with its cords.

I held up the hard drive and said “I think this answers your question.”
