I was driving to Evansville with about 2 or 3 hours to go. I’d spent most of the drive listening to history podcasts but they were doing a poor job of keeping me alert. I told my phone to play a bunch of Supertramp tunes. That was an effective pick-me-up.
I was cruising in the right lane when I noticed that another car started to pass me but stopped so that I could see the car’s hood out of the corner of my eye. A few seconds later, the driver pulled ahead and went off in the distance.
This is when I noticed that the car belonged to some sheriff’s department or other. Since he was now off in the distance, he obviously wasn’t interested in giving me a ticket.
If he’d been looking at me from my blind spot, he’d’ve seen a middle aged driver with his hands on the steering wheel in the approved 10 and 2 o’clock position…
…playing the air keyboard on the steering wheel, singing along to Supertramp’s “If Everyone was Listening”, and otherwise wigging out.
Just as well that he kept on going, really. We probably would’ve both been embarrassed.
Then “Hide in Your Shell” started playing and I was wigging out more than before.
No witnesses this time though.
