A few days ago, I was talking with Corwin about Stanly Kubrick’s movies. I mentioned a gag from Mad Magazine about Kubrick’s periods. Clockwork Orange was from his Beethoven period, 2001: A Space Odyssey was from his Straus period, and Barry Lyndon was from his Mozart period.
One of my favorite works from Barry Lyndon was Schubert’s Piano Trio which was also used in some police drama, of all things, recently. This inspired me to play a number of tracks from the Barry Lyndon soundtrack tonight in between podcasts.
After all this, I find that Rush’s title track from Fly by Night got stuck in my head. I blame the restaurant where I had lunch. I’m using the Piano Trio to chase away Fly by Night.
I hope Schubert wins.
