the royals and me

A lot of Americans think that I have a fascination with the British royal family. The reasoning seems to be that the royals are British and I was born British, so I must be all over them.

I’m often asked about my feelings about the latest reason for seeing the royals’ names in American news media. “What do you think about the baby?” “What do you think about the wedding?” Gods help me, the outpouring of sympathy back when lady Di kicked it was embarrassing.

I try not to be rude because the intentions seem good but after some of these well-meant queries, it’s hard to find a nice way of saying that I totally don’t give a sh1t about the royals.

Even when I was over there, the royals weren’t part of my life. The queen did give a speech on TV every Christmas about being nice and not killing each other but I was too busy opening Christmas gifts to pay her much attention.

Since then, I’ve not had a reason to worry or care about them.

As for lady Di? Try not to worry. I’ll be fine.
