I watched the Simpsons’ “Treehouse of Horror XXV” and got a surprise. The middle of 3 segments was called “A Clockwork Yellow” and was a spoof of Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange”. This is one of my favorite movies.
The PG-13 versions of the scenes were hilarious. The infamous “speeded up sex scene” showed Homer eating and cooking while Marge sat around being bored. At one point she’s reading “A Clockwork Orange”.
Shortly after this, the segment started moving thru Kubrick’s other movies. From “Full Metal Jacket”, Moe walks in on a guy sitting on a toilet and holding a rifle. From “2001: A Space Odyssey”, Homer acts like an ape in front of what appears to be a monolith. From “Eyes Wide Shut”, Moe goes to a high-class orgy and doesn’t get laid. From “Barry Lyndon”, Comic Book Man gets his leg shot off.
As he fell, Comic Book Man said “Even I do not get this reference.” That left me feeling pretty smug.
To remove all doubt, the segment ends with Stanley Kubrick sitting with a film editing device trying to work with a pile of file footage.
Damn. I gotta watch those movies again.
