There’s an old trope about the Eskimos/Inuit/really north guys having hundreds of words for snow.

I looked this up and found that it’s mostly claptrap. There are a lot of languages in the really north and they tend to combine words to make new words.

Where we’d call something “wet snow” or “packing snow” the really north folks would jam words together to come up with “wetsnow” and “packingsnow”. Sorta like those really long German words.

This doesn’t seem to be very different from our own lexicon : sleet, slush, wet snow, packing snow,

Then there’s darn snow, gosh darned snow, ducking snow, Jesus ducking Christ it’s snow, and so on.

It’s been suggested that maybe I miss snow down here in Florida. I do not.
