In early 2021, Amway’s powers that be decided that they were gonna get rid of 900 employees out of the 3000ish that they had. To soften the blow, they offered a separation package that was a function of the employee’s number of years at Amway and their age.

In my case, that meant I’d get paid to lay on the sofa and eat bonbons for 16 months. Or I could get another job and put the money into my retirement fund.

My separation day was September 3, 2021, and I’d already had a bunch of travel plans for September / October so I held off actually looking for work until November. I guess I’m combining both plans.

I’d better hurry though, the money runs out in 2023.
