A long time ago, someone suggested that things sound romantic if said in French. Some of us cautiously agreed. Then this person said that anything said in French sounded romantic.
I tested this out. I said to a nearby female, possibly Pam, in my most romantic French accent “où est la fenêtre” which translates to “where is the window.”
Predictably, this caused more laughter than romantic desire.
Over the years, I’ve been finding excuses to say “où est la fenêtre” whenever the subject of the French language came up.
Now that I’m studying Spanish, I’ve learned that this translates to “donde está la ventana.”
Doesn’t seem either funny or romantic though.
