We were driving home one afternoon and had to stop as a bunch of wild turkeys crossed the road. This isn’t too unusual in our neighborhood. The turkeys have been around for years.
As we waited for the turkeys to get out of the way, I wondered about the collective noun for turkeys. “Gaggle” came to mind but I was sure that was only for geese.
Later, I looked it up and found that acceptable group nouns for turkeys are rafter, gang, and posse.
I don’t find any of these to be satisfying.
I modestly propose a new collective noun for turkeys: feast. As in: We were stuck waiting for a feast of turkeys to get out of the bloody way.
