We were at a meeting that was catered by a local restaurant. The meats and sauces were to be kept warm by lighting some sterno can thingies under the food.

The only trouble was that out of a dozen people, no one had anything to light with. No one had matches or lighters.

There was a kitchen but it didn’t have a stove. I’ve lit many cigarettes off stove coils in the past not for the last 27 years. The kitchen did have a microwave but the only way that I know to get a fire with that is to fill it with metal and kindling. Then you have to get another microwave.

The only thing that saved us was that someone cleverly noticed that there was a drawer labeled “Lighter” with a lighter in it.

Or course, if this had been the 70s, we’d’ve torched the place in seconds.
