The last time that Pam and I went to Dance Camp in Vegas, we learned a tango routine. The music for the routine was Roxanne from the movie Chicago.
Later, I looked up the song on Wikipedia. It’s based on the song Roxanne by the Police. I then looked up that song and found that they’d written it as a tango with other musical elements.
I filed this information away.
For the past few months, we’ve been taking more Tango lessons. As we practiced, we listened to more traditional tango tunes. I’ve often said that I dance despite the music, not because of it and most tango music can be pretty vile.
Tonight, I remembered that we could use the Police’s Roxanne for a tango. As we started our tango lesson, I started that on the speaker. Pam looked nonplussed. We got in first position, counted to 4, and I started the entrada, the opening tango pattern.
Pretty soon, Pam and I are flying across the room as the Police are belting out “Roxanne”. I rocked back and forth as I turned Pam one way and then another while she is flipping her legs this way and that.
As I’d written, I dance despite most dance music. But with decent music, dancing can be beeping awesome.
