fixing things

It has been sometimes said that I’m not mechanically inclined. I’ll admit that if a broken object needs more than a “glorified putting Lego back together”, then I’m usually better off paying someone else to do it.

Computers are another matter. For the most part, they’re pretty much put together like Lego and I know how to make computers work.

Over the weekend, our clothes washer was on the fritz. After having washed a load, it just sat there filling itself with water. When the water level got to a certain height, it would empty itself while it continued to pour in more water.

I googled the situation but all I could find were instructions for replacing different parts of the washer.

I tried pushing a lot of different buttons but that didn’t change anything.

I tried unplugging the washer but the water kept coming. I plugged the washer back in.

After fiddling with different switches, I resolved the situation by:

  1. turning off the water to the washer
  2. unplugging the washer
  3. waiting for 10-15 minutes
  4. plugging the washer back in
  5. turning the water to the washer back on
  6. turning on the washer

Running another load through the washer proved that the washer was working properly again.

Pam thinks that because everything is computerized, these days, my computer skills are becoming more useful.

I dunno. It’s hard to take pride in turning something off and then turning it on again.
