A Surprise

When I got home from work on the day before my birthday, I saw that Pam’s car was already in the garage. This was unusual because she typically got home about 2 or 3 hours after I do.

Pam greeted me with “You’re not supposed to be here for another hour.”

She’d never shown much interest in my return from work and I didn’t see any point in asking what changed. Instead, I asked “Would you be happier if I went downstairs?” The home theater is downstairs and I had an episode of Star Trek: Discovery on deck. Going downstairs made both of us happy.

A few of hours later, I was invited back to the main floor. Corwin had joined us by then.

Another Surprise

The next odd thing was that the doorbell rang. We rarely have people over so the doorbell is hardly ever used. I was then instructed to get the door.

Through the frosted window, I saw a gaggle of people on the porch. When I opened the door, I saw that it was the lion’s share of our cruising buddies who then started shouting “happy birthday!”

They also brought dinner which I’d been beginning to wonder about. All of a sudden, I was in the middle of a surprise party.

There was eating and drinking and talking and laughing and more people showing up.

Another Another Surprise

The doorbell rang another time and I dutifully went to see the latest arrivals. This bunch had some kids, a young couple, and a couple who were our age. I didn’t recognize them.

Then Morgan said “Hi Dad.” Oh. It was like the camera had been messed up and now it wasn’t and then I could see Morgan, Beth, the grandkids, and Dave and Jackie.

I was very confused by this point and had a great time turning 60.

Now I just need to practice shouting “Get off my lawn” into the computer’s mouse.
