cruising 2018: at a bar on a ship

I’d been at a bar for a couple of hours getting in some dancing with Pam. We’d all been standing in front of the bar with friends, conversating when not dancing.

A man who’d been sitting with his wife further down the bar approached the spot where I was standing as if he needed to be there.

I’d no idea what he was doing so I asked if he needed to speak to the bartender or something.

He said “No, I was just here.”

I said “I thought that you were over there”, pointing at his old spot.

He said “No, I was here and now my wife’s missing.”

The bartender, Alonzo, joined the conversation by pointing to the man’s old spot.

The man continued insisting that he was at his old spot.

As I looked more closely, I saw the man’s wife was still at the old spot. I said “Isn’t that your wife over there?”

The man accepted the evidence and wandered back to his spot.

Alonzo looked at me and said “I guess that’s why you drink soda.”

I answered “I won’t say that I’ve never done that, but it’s been a while.”
