Full Disclosure: I used to work for Volkswagen decades ago to support their mainframe.

This morning I heard about Volkswagen admitting to rigging the pollution control devices on their diesel cars so that they only work when they were checked.

I couldn’t help think that this kind of idiocy is what gets talked about in bars after work:

“Dude! You know, we could program the pollution controls to only do anything when they’re being checked. That way we can get stellar mileage and the EPA will get off our backs.”

“Dude! Dude! You should totally do that!”

“Right? Who’d ever know?”

Then they’d sober up, and never think of it again.

They must’ve missed that last step.
