I’ve got a lot of books. It is sometimes a challenge to keep track of them all. One friend of mine used labels with his name on them to identify his books. That seemed like a good idea to me but the labels were pretty ugly. I’d also need an awful lot of them.

I thought that it would be better to get an embosser instead. But what should it say? Most suggestions were along the lines of “from the library of …” which seemed pretty boring.

I wound up ordering an embosser with the following:

Stephen Squire
Give it back you
thieving bastard

When I lent some books to my manager, I had to make sure that he understood that all of my books said that and it wasn’t personal.
