I was driving with Pam at the beginning of a 1200 mile Xmas tour. About 5 miles into the drive, I got a call from work – some piece of crap software wasn’t working properly. I couldn’t figure out what was going on, especially while I was driving. I figured that I’d pull over, go to Starbucks where they have free WIFI, fire up my laptop and see what was going on. This Starbucks had no WIFI. I was surprised. I’d thought that free WIFI was one the reasons that people came to Starbucks. I started working on plan B which is to connect my cell phone to my laptop. As I was working on this, I noticed some odd goings-on. Instead of an outside wall, this Starbucks had huge floor-to-ceiling windows. I was sitting beside this window, looking along its length. Pam was sitting in front of me. Behind Pam was a table for 2 with a young couple seated at it. The young lady had her back to the window. What caught my attention was that behind the young lady, outside on the sidewalk, was a collection of more young people holding signs. The signs had one word each and together they read, “Will you marry me?” The young lady was oblivious to all this as was Pam since Pam was facing me. I said, “Oh, my, Drama,” or something. Pam looked around and found herself inches away from the young lady. At that moment, the young man dropped to one knee and proposed. The young lady was shocked and thrilled and said “Yes” several times. The folks in Starbucks applauded. I was able to figure out the problem with the crappy software and we were soon on our way.
