the day that they screwed up ice cream

Once, when our kids were little, we went out for ice cream with my dad. I forget the name of the place but I think that it had 31 flavors. One of those flavors was tofu. My older boy asked what tofu tasted like. I didn’t know. The boy was curious so he asked for the tofu flavored ice cream. After all, what was the risk? Both of our boys had long lists of food that they didn’t want to eat. I thought that I’d encourage tasting new things.

It turns out the risk was that you’d wind up with ice cream that tastes like tofu. The boy announced that it was awful and wanted another one. Dad sampled the offending ice cream and said that it did taste strongly of tofu.

This put me in a bit of a quandary. I believed that you shouldn’t be picky about food that is given to you. Especially ice cream. But somehow, someone managed to made ice cream that didn’t taste good. Because of this, I changed my mind, and bought the boy another ice cream. I forget what he got as a replacement.

So much for tasting new things. Who would have thought that they could screw up ice cream?
